Safety Inspections Help Reduce Workplace Hazards

Safety inspections can be very effective in providing a systematic method for companies to eliminate workplace hazards.  The most effective inspections are done by employees familiar with the workplace, task or job, or by a supervisor and an employee from the area working together.

When conducting a safety inspection, it’s important to look at the organization’s entire safety program, including processes, equipment, workplace environment, employee training and emergency plans. Follow-up on the findings of safety inspections is critical, including developing a correction for each problem, setting a deadline for the corrections and reviewing inspection reports for trends, persistent problems and factors contributing to problems.

Conducting periodic safety inspections helps ensure everyone’s commitment to safe work practices by raising safety awareness to minimize workplace hazards.

The OSHA Training Institute Education Center is offering OTC 308-Safety Inspection Techniques  in Dublin, California, on September 5-7, 2018. This course focuses on how inspections are conducted and how the information is used to improve safety and health. It covers the most commonly used safety inspection standards, tools and techniques, and offers an organized approach to inspecting and auditing projects for compliance and injury prevention.
